Ok, I know I'm a traditionalist - but I think this might work better with a contemporary kilt - but not so much with a tartan kilt.
This next part is just MY opinion... you might want to hike that kilt up a bit and look for a wider belt. I don't mean to sound so negative but to my eye tartan kilts look better higher (I prefer top of knee) and a wider belt seems to be the right "scale" for a manly garment like a kilt.

Hi,
Another traditionalist here; have to agree with PDCorlis, all the way.
Bob
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

Thanks for the input guys.
I know the tube socks fly in the face of those that hated them in the 80's, but I have to admit, I love them, and have been wearing them longer than I have been wearing a kilt, so for me they're going to stick around!
PDC, I agree on the belt, but I've only had the kilt about 3 weeks and am still trying to accessorize. The thinner belt was much more accommodating than the big buckled one I originally got. I'm working on the belt for sure!

The kilt looks great. The socks, not so much.

With a solid color kilt, I'd say go for it. With a tartan kilt, stick to solid colors, or argyle kilt hose that matches the tartan of the kilt. With white or light colored athletic shoes, I find that off-white kilt hose goes well. A lot better than with black shoes, in my experience.
Today, I'm going to be doing some yardwork, so it'll be a black survival UK with black/white striped cotton knee socks (not the same style as what you're wearing, but striped from the foot up almost to the top, where there's a black turnover), white NB runners, and a t-shirt.
Here's a link to the socks I'm wearing. On the leg model, the socks are pulled up over the knee, but on a guy, they usually are knee-high with a turnover. I also have a pair in the black/army green combination, which works well with hiking boots and my UK. I am considering a pair of the charcol/hunter green combination, which should go well with both my running shoes and my hiking boots. Don't worry, I won't be wearing them with my traditional kilts. http://www.sock-dreams.com/_shop/pag...ductID_438.php

I'm with Phil
I think Phil's points are well taken. To me, the kilt should be the showcased garment. The socks compete with the kilt. It's a beautiful kilt and should be worn for its beauty. Wider belts are better because they finish the kilt's top.
