It looks like you are using standard 2-inch pleats, and this produces a wee bit of overlap inside as they taper toward the waist. My advice is that it is unnecessary to cut out any material between waist and fell on a simple casual kilt such as this. Just go ahead with the waistband, which locks in the tops of the tapers, then line the kilt. I believe you will be more pleased with it uncut.

Well, too late. I've already cut it out. Somehow I missed your post. I do appreciate the advise however. I'm still working. Tonight I attached the lining and sewed down the edge on the outer apron and fringed it. I'll work on it again Monday evening. Hopefully I can finish it out or at least get the waistband attached. It should be finished by the end of next week. I'm only working on it 1 or 2 hours a night 2 or 3 nights a week. I started April 18th. I think I've made good progress. I plan on a debut at the Gatlinburg games. You might have to wait until after that to see pics. So if you want to be amongst the first to see it, come to the Gatlinburg games May 20-21.
But be nice, it's my first.

I look forward to seeing it at G'burg, and I'll be nice. I still have not finished my own first kilt, and I started back in November of last year! Life seems to always interrupt. Maybe I should bring the fabric and get Matt's opinion...
