I remember a time when first wearing the kilt, I went to a January club meeting at a local polish hall. Here I was not quite getting the sweep correct leaving a few bits to touch the metal folding chair, I figure no one knows but me so no big deal, except someone forgot to turn on the heat to that room.

I have this issue too, even with the Stillwaters that hit me mid knee. No matter how carefully I 'sweep' even a elaborate less than gracefull two handed proceedure, I still have to deal with the possibility of my boys touching down in strange (un-sanitary) places! And I don't have a 'bubble-butt' a snake has more *** than me! When I started wearing kilts, I usally went regemental, but as I wear them more, and to more different places, this issue has got me wearing something under them most of the time.

I think that any gut you may have keeps the front of the kilt lower than the back so that even if it's the right length in front, it can be short in the back, especially when you sit. The material has to wrap from your waist, around your butt and down your legs. If I sweep correctly, my boys are right at the edge of the hem or selvedge of my kilts, but I have been suprised by cold metal and hot car seats occasionally.

UK even makes their kilts available with a beer gut cut that is longer in the back for this reason.

Been there, done that, and it is definitely an eye opener, especially on a cold metal chair! Think I am about average size in the butt. Take a look guys, does this kilt make my butt look big? LOL

This thread is an example of one of the joys of this forum... It's great to know you are not alone. Bubble butt or not, many of us experience this situation frequently. I still worry about getting a urinary track infection, since it's not just my "bits" that touch the chair surface, but my "stick" as well--usually in a "face down" position!

In situations where I'm out in public seating, I've taken to keeping my legs together and my parts stay more up in my lap rather than hang down. Another ploy is to sit on the front edge of the chair, spread your legs and allow everyone to just "hang loose" over the front of the chair. Especially in a UK, the apron more than covers everything.

At any rate, in time, you get used to is and the initial shock wears off!

(Now, I know some of you guys are embarrased by this discussion, but those who are probably wear underwear anyway .)

That "ears" thing is the sanitized childrens' song version.

Seriously, though, with a proper sweep, this should not be a problem.

Another tactic is to sit on the front edge of the seat and then slide back. This should help keep the back pulled down.

I normally don't have any problems with the "bits", but I have had cold metal on the back of the leg many times.

The best way to judge if it's your butt, is to bend over with your butt facing a full length mirror, and look back to see how the kilt hangs then; if the back rises inordinately high, then you have your answer!

I could be wrong on this, but it has always looked to me like the back of the UKs and shorter than the front. I have heard this same issue from other UK wearers, and wonder if this is the problem.
