Camouflage Kilts...

What's everyones opinion on Camouflage Kilts? I think they look quite good, but a number of people i've spoken to (non-kilt wearers) think they look daft...any thoughts?

Although I do not own one (yet) I'm a huge fan of camouflage kilts. 21st. Century Kilts and R-Kilts to name two both have excellent offerings. But then again, while I like to be well dressed but prefer casual to very traditional / formal. Just my two cents.

I'm wearing one this very minute, in fact. It's my new "Boulder" Sport Kilt in Woodland Camo that I bought when it was on sale for $99. To be sure, this is not a substantial kilt, but it seems perfect to knock around the house in and do weekend errands and chores. It's lightweight, so I expect I'll use it a lot in the summer.

If you like the look of it, what does it matter? A lot of people think kilts look daft, but that's not stopping you from wearing one, is it?

Thats true, as well as the woodland design I really love the snow camouflage one too, I think that would be better to wear out to a night out...or during a snow-drift! either way it looks very cool (pardon the pun)

I think I'll definately get one some day, at the moment I just own a plain black one I got from Ebay and its great, I'm going to wear it out this evening in fact

My second kilt was a Nightwatch Camo Utilitkilt, I love it and outside of winter wear it often. The only people that think it is daft also don't get wearing a kilt anyway.

There is a kilt length of DPM on the pile waiting for further attention here.

The only reason I have not already got a camo kilt was the price of the material - this kilt was born to be curtains - but was bought on eBay for 6 UK pounds including the postage (shipping) unpicked and divided into 4 lengths which will make up into a good kilt.

I plan to wear it with khaki tee shirt and bush hat in the summer.

It is not yet May and I am finding that a 50 percent wool kilt is too hot. I'm going to have to mothball the heavier kilts until the temperature goes down.

Luckily I have begun resurecting the light cotton kilts I wore last year so I will have something to wear until I can sew up some new ones. They are looking rather weathered, but it is amazing what a spray of starch and a careful ironing can do to the look of a light cotton kilt.

I have a camo kilt and wear it fairly often
here is a pic w/me on the bottom right

love it - rarely get negative comments- when paired with a heavy sweater & combat boots & thick black socks i think i intimidate people too much to say anything bad...

The first problem is that camouflage material is directional and kilts are long peices of cloth. This results in the pattern being 90 degrees off. The first kilt that I made was in "6-Color Desert" so I had to do the front apron sideways for the pattern to come out correct. Which necessitated putting a hem on it which to look right had to go all the way arround.

The second problem is the material itself mostly you have either a light canvas or a rip-stop poplin neither looks right, not even close to the way a kilt is supposed to hang and swing.

May I suggest that if you want "the look" of commo you go with Black Watch, Nightstalker or a hunting tartan.

I don't have any problems with them, but I also do not have one even though it is sommewhere on my list to get.

I bought one from SK and I like it, but since I haven't washed it yet, it's pretty stiff and the pleats tend to stick out. Will this change after it's been washed? The amount of fabric used is minimal, I believe, which on a "full butted" guy, leads to pleats standing open and not falling back in place, but maybe this will change after a few washings and the fabric softens?
