County Cavan HoE Kilt - Take 2...

...I don't know how or why they came up with this line...It really doesn't make sense to me. As I've pointed out a couple of times in recent threads on this forum, the very first tailored kilt we know of...contained exactly 3 yards and 2 inches of cloth and was pleated to the stripe!

I'm happy to see one of our resident kilt makers get in on this topic. Thank you for speaking out, Matt...your expertise is always welcome in my book.

FYI, Matt made my Fitzsimmons 5-yard kilt (the very first of its kind, so its value is immeasureable) and pleated it to stripe without issue. Bear in mind that since there was less material, there's less pleating but that doesn't take away from the quality or the beauty of the kilt. The pleat-to-stripe looks fantastic on the kilt and I wouldn't have wanted it done any other way. GREAT job, Matt.

I forgot a couple of "likes"... its lined - a nice touch... and it has kilt hanging loops. Oh yeah... in my book there's only one Hamish, his years of eperience place him in the living "national treasure" category - compared to him, I'm a rank amateur.

Phil is correct, the lining and the hanging loops are nicely done as well. I took a good look at the leather straps and buckles and compared them side-by-side to the ones Matt used on my recent Fitzsimmons kilt and I can see no difference between the buckles as they appear identical but there is a noticeable difference in the thickness of the leather straps used. Not to slight Edgar by any means but Matt wins hands down here and in my opinion, both sets of straps are very well-made and sturdy enough to last for many, many years to come.
