    Red face SF Tartan

Anyhoo--- Apropos your questions about marketing strategies, since it looks like you are making this tartan you designed available to the public, are you suggesting that anyone can wear it, presuming they understand what it is and what it's for? There's been much discussion on this thread about respecting clan membership, and certain branches of the uniformed services having exclusive use of their own tartans (and camouflage). I'm guessing that since this one was never part of an actual sanctioned uniform, you have a broader purpose in mind.

Sorry i did not make it clear, we are only going to market it to those who are current SF Association members or who can show us their DD214 or other proof of SF qualification. I recognize it might be viewed as a limited audience, but there are chapters of SFA in every state (more than one in some states) and all over the world. I apologize for any confusion i may have wrought. Also, when my team sergeant and i embarked on this project, our primary purpose was to create a tartan to memorialize the SF. The only excuse i have is that i'm a newbie. And i truly appreciate all of the help that i have gotten from you folks on this, including tips on associations etc. to contact. Forums like this can help get the word out and your emphasis that you don't necessarily have to be Scottish to enjoy wearing a kilt will help get non-Scots SF types to acquire one. Thanks again and sorry for the rambling.

    gaining copyright

    Gentlemen/Warriors --

I'm desperately trying to work out how to gain copyright permission to use this tartan for my (active duty SF officer) fiance's kilt for our Edinburgh wedding. LTC Pries is non-contactable via e-mail. Does anyone have any idea of an alternative contact/way to progress?

With sincere thanks, and a Happy St Andrew's Day to you all,

    Carolyne

Just an odd side note: the photo posted looks great but I am confused as to why the twill is reversed in the middle of the virtual swatch--perhaps the image was flipped over to make a larger piece? Anyway, it is beautiful, good luck in your efforts.

Tear me up...what a cool effort to develop a beautiful tartan for some gallant soldiers.

Hope it ain't too political...my respect to the Special Forces goes way back to the late 50s when the U.S. was "not officially" in you know where. An Army ROTC Pathfinder et.al. came to our Fraternity for formal Sunday night dinner to show home movies of what was really going on there, and telling stories about what was really going on there. I'm sure he was over the line but he was very kind, and brave, to bring us the truth...and the message to "get ready for what's coming."

    An amazing soldier.

And for Coast Guard tartan, check out L.L. Bean for a Coast Guard tartan shirt to hold you over until the kilt arrives.
