When I finished work in the kitchen I had a wee dram at the bar.

A regular (rather loud) guest came to me and started to laugh and make fun of me. I gave him the "you are dirt" look and ignored him.

A few minutes later he came back and told me he wanted to "show" me to his Taiwanese business associatives.
I went straight to their table and gave them a polite nod...the 2 Taiwanese guys stood up and bowed to me..."you wear traditional clothing, we respect that".
I turned to the regular guest and grinned...he turned beet red.

    Sweet revenge...

I didn't actually hear this exchange, my brother-in-law did. We were in a crowded Hooters while on vacation last year...

guy 1: Hey that guy's wearing a skirt!

guy 2: (looks at me) Yes, but it's a tasteful skirt.

A few weeks ago I attended a student opera at the local university. Being that it was a matinee, I didn't go full formal. I was wearing a black eton jacket and my FK. The material of the two garments is so close it looks like a kilt suit. I wore two-tone brogues, off white hose, a semi dress sporran, tux shirt with no tie and a black Christies of London eton cap. At the intermission I was outside smoking a pipefull of Comptons Balkan mix when a gaggle of doyennes passed by. "You look beautiful!" one exclaimed. As I returned to my seat another ancient but extremely well dressed woman buttonholed me. "I saw you at the Chan Centre for the last opera," she admitted. Then in a confidential tone: "Are you someone important?"

Last month I wore full dress to the symphony closing concert (PC, Maple Leaf 16 oz, white fur sporran, ecru hose and matching flashes). While waiting in line for drinks at intermission, a man behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I don't think you realize how intimidating you are." Before I could question him we were at the front of the line ordering and I didn't see him again. Intimidating? I never thought of myself as intimidating.

    Talking

Yesterday I attended a convention for european Celtic FC supporters in Benidorm. I thought that I was going to be surrounded by thousands of members of the "tartan army", but my surprise was that I was the only kilted guy of all those 6000 people. At first I felt somewhat uncomfortable, but I lost that sensation as soon as I noticed the respectful looks, received three invitations for a pint and many questions. Gals started to approach and all finished quite well... but maybe the most relevant thing for me was that a lot of guys looked at me full of respect and saluted me....IN SCOTS!... they were simply amazed when they noticed the only kilted guy there was a spaniard... and maybe more than one complained for leaving the kilt at home!

1 - GMan, Zardoz, his lovely wife and I were at a bar in LoDo (lower downtown Denver) and as we were leaving I overheard a young lady saying to her gentleman friend "I don't care, I like them" as she was looking at us walking by.

    2 - A young lady at work "You're sexy!"

My first post to this forum contains a number of things that I've heard while kilted. While they are all positive, none are as amusing or surprising as those posted here in this thread.
