Welcome from Canton Ohio. I am minor clergy in the Eastern Orthodox Church (a tonsured Reader), so like you I get to wear a dress on Sundays at at other liturgical events, and a skirt on my days off!! Gotta love it!

Well, it's nice to see that another deacon is a kilt person. Actually, I am a senior deacon from the Detroit Area. (age 65 retired for health reasons) I play the bagpipes with Cabar Feidh Pipes and Drums.

I have been wearing a kilt (obviously due to the piping) for many years...but I am new to this group.

I own a Ross Weathered Hunting in honor of my wife's late mom. I was very close to my in-laws.

My band kilt is a Modern Wilson.

You can PM me and we can talk deacon stuff.

I celebrated my 25th anniversary of my ordination to the Diaconate 7 years ago and I had a piper. My wife made a full set of vestments 2 chasables and 2 dalmatics with stoles and each had the Clergy green tartan as decoration. That was also the time I began to study and play the pipes.

Doesn't it seem extremely weird to you that men now want to wear kilts when they are washing the car, going to the store, whatever?

Does it seem right to wear the kilt 24 hours a day?

I'm curious as to the outlook of someone sho has only used the kilt for formal ocassions.

Listen, Phil:

Some people who post here wear their kilts full time, and don't own trousers. If they don't wear a kilt to wash the car, well, then I guess the neighbors will get a show.

Some people who post here wear their kilts when they can. They enjoy the comfort and freedom that the kilt affords, but they also feel that because of other concerns, obligations, or courtesies, it's sometimes inappropriate or ill-advised to wear a kilt.

Some people who post here wear their kilts when they feel like it. Their kilts are just another article of clothing in their wardrobe. They like to have choices.

Some people who post here wear their kilts only for special occasions. When they do, they enjoy a feeling of pride and well up with respect for heritage and tradition. They know that they are putting on their best threads and pay special attention to the details it is a gesture of honor.

No doubt, many of each of these kind of people may feel that the other must be making some sort of compromise or is too rigid. But as you can see, a broad range of preferences, beliefs, and opinions are represented. They are united in their appreciation for the kilt.

Some people who don't post here think anyone who wears a kilt outside of a pipe band is a little off kilter.

Some people who don't post here don't care a fig about kilts.

Some people who don't post here haven't made up their minds.

I'm sure there are many lurkers here, past and present, who've faced the same insecurities that you are expressing. I imagine that seeing someone go through with it publicly has been helpful, one way or the other. I also think everyone has been trying to be as supportive as possible toward you in an attempt to help you reach your goal. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you know what you want.

If what some people do doesn't seem right to you -- wearing a kilt and feeling perfectly natural about it, for instance, or maybe their choice in tartans -- then deal with it. But how about you troll for insults somewhere else, eh?

You're either gonna have to drop the kids off at the pool or get off the pot.
