Well, all I can say is that I have no problem understanding P1M's writing. Perhaps it's cause I write every so often as my southern accent sounds. Since a large part of southern speech patterns/accents were from Scots settlers that may be why. When we visited Scotland a couple of years ago we had no problem understanding anyone and we visited from Glasgow up through Inverness and points inbetween. My officer had been to Scotland the year before me and had lots of difficulty understanding people. Even while we were doing the tourist thing, people would hear our southern accents and talk to us more than they talked to the ones with the northern/standard american accent. There were areas that we saw the advertisements and other writing in the written Scots. Please, keep it up as I find it quite home like. Thanks.

    YMOS,
    Tony

At the risk of only being able to add a "me too" - I just want to say I really enjoy reading P1M's Scots posts. They are a part of who he is and that suits me fine.

By luck I'm in Southern Germany, Ansbach to be precise. This is farming, wine making, and beer making country. I'm originally from the hills of Tennessee, a small town north of Nashville that got a stoplight only about 7 years ago. Seems like everyone in Scotland that asked where we were from knew about TN and Jack Daniels. I like my Jack but I like a good single malt even better.

    Red face

While wir oan the subject of booze (a subject nivvir fair fra ma mind at the best o times), a couple of yis might hae read hoo ah wis oot newly kilted last night.
I reckoned ah hud a gey smart ootfit put thigether an a. We wir roond at ma brother-in-law's an his wife's bit, and it wis coaktails we hud planned. Ah lugged a ma gear roond, shakers and bendy straws, the whole shebang.

First up wis caipirinhas. Ye huftae cut up a lime and mollicate it thegither wi broon shoogir, and ye dae this directly in the glass, wi yon thing thit looks like a cross between a porridge spirtle an a fish stonner. A wis daen this, quite the thing, gie'in it laldy, when a' o a sudden the whole lime an shoogir skooshed oot, a o'er ma claes!

Didnae feel too much the debonair kilted version o Tom Cruise in "Cocktail" anymair, ah can tell yis. Ah wis fair cursin! But ma kilt wis OK, an the coaktails went doon a treat.

Ma two wee nieces were up an a' (thir 8 an 11), drinkin juice oot a straws. They nivvir batted an eyelid when they saw the kilt. Noat a peep. And ah'll tak that as high praise indeed!

    Cheers the noo
    M.
