It would be worth verifying that the government even pays for the uniforms anyway.

I know when I was issued my Dress Blues, a hefty sum was taken from my pay check to cover the cost. In fact I had to buy every one of my uniforms. Now our salary included a "clothing allowance" but it was hardly enough to cover the cost of replacing and maintaining uniforms to regulations. So the uniform technically doesn't cost the government anything. Although they will use this "budget cut" to slip a few dollars into their expense account.
