    I agree with Rab. Wear what you would wear with your kilt with black pants to the wedding and put on your kilt for the reception.

    I'd honor the request and then figure out how important that relationship is. Then probably not go. Stuff her , I'd let your buddy know that is why I wasn't going either. Going formal is a sign of respect and effort. Outshine the bride? Horsehockey! She has another agenda. Any bets?
