Notable TV series from the UK...I could write a book!
They send us "Lost Empires" and we send them "Kojack".
They send us "Flickers" and we sent them "Dynasty".
Okay...maybe not a fair trade...
I SERIOUSLY recommend "Lost Empires"...not a comedy...about a nephew travelling with his decidedly not nice magician uncle in the twilight days of the music halls in England.
"Flickers"...mostly funny but serious at the core...Bob Hoskins as Arnie Cole rises from con man to movie impressario in the early days of silent film...absolutely great.
"Waiting For God"...two old people in a retirement home making life "interesting" for their relatives. "Vicar Of Dibley"...if you haven't seen it, you have missed the exploits of "The Dibley Poisoner"...if you have, you know what I mean...Dawn French is the sexiest big woman in the world. "Are You Being Served" and "A.Y.B.S Again"...I will stay up and watch episodes that I have seen twelve times already...and I am unanimous in this. "Last of the Summer Wine"...never falling down roaring laughter funny but very warm humor...watch for the constant series of explosions from Wesley's shed...this series has been running for something like thirty years and they still haven't worn the premise out.
So to our friends in the UK...we'll be sending you "My Name Is Earl"...I KNOW that you'll love that one...we'd send you "Heist" but I think that they gave up trying to make that one work after about four episodes. If you are really lucky you may get "Joey"...you loved friends, you'll love Joey...although it looks like a whole lot of people didn't. And perhaps you may get to see the American remake of "Coupling"...el stinko, as we say on this side of the pond...although that unbelievably attractive blond woman from the UK version of Coupling did show up on "Teachers" over here this year (and by the way, "Teachers" bit the moose after about a half adozen episodes...no reflections on Sarah Alexander).
TV or not TV....
But Blackadder...that's great...especially Blackadder Two....Miranda Richardson as QE I and Fry and Laurie...not to mention Tony Richardson as Baldric...even a guest shot by Tom Baker! Thank you.
Best
