We've been having (unseasonal? it is summer, after all - it's supposed to be raining) hot weather in London for a couple of days now with temperatures in the 90s (around 30 C). I was thinking about this thread earlier this afternoon when doing some shopping in Chiswick for my wife. All the women of all ages from early teens to old biddies seem to give me an approving grin, but the men all looked either vacant or hostile (I wonder what that says?). I thought, actually, they looked a bit preposterous in their long shorts and vests/singlets. They'd have looked much cooler and more relaxed in a kilt - and it would have made their womenfolk happy. I didn't get any approving remarks, though. I feel quite jealous.

My sympathies to all of you in the UK for having to deal with such beastly weather. I think that most of us in the States have somewhat better coping mechanisms and are used to heat waves.

It may as well be summer here in Chicago and people are dressing like it...lots of preposterously way-baggy National Basketball Association type shorts on the men and flip-flops seem to be the footwear of choice...trouble is that it's only in the sixties (fahernheit) here.

    Kilts...the sensible alternative.

An English friend once told me that the English loved the Dutch...his best line: "We like them so much that we once bought a King from them."

Being June 12, summer is still over a week away. 30° C sounds pretty warm for London regardless of the time of year though (I've never been so I wouldn't know).

Curious how, generally speaking, women are often more accepting of kilt-wearing men than other men.

    Thank you,

That's because the human being is just another animal...with funny instincts.

Men are dominant creatures...they strife to be better as other men...haircut, muscles, clothes, big car, wealth etc. It's in their subconsiousness to show off...to impress the females. (compare birds...the nicest feathers, the silliest show offs....male).

So...when another male starts wearing a kilt (nicer feathers)...he's a threat.

Females...they choose the male with the nicest feathers (a kilt)...they will make compliments, start drooling, wild beasty glare in their eyes and they might even jump the kiltwearer (ask Alan )
