    Kilt/hose advice needed

In this picture are: my new hose and ghillie brogues, my 75% complete Montrose doublet, and my brand-spankin' new 16 oz kilt in Ancient Macbeth from Barb T! I will post a thread later with more pictures and info on this kilt, but I haven't had time yet. I've got to much on my plate as it is, but when I finish this doublet and the plaid, a large chunk will be done.

Anyway, what I need is advice on my hose. These are red and green diced hose, and they're really, really comfortable. I might have flashes to match the kilt by the wedding. I don't know much about diced hose, so I need to know if the combination is good. Or, rather, should I go with my off-white ribbed hose from SWK? This is my wedding outfit, and I think the diced hose look a lot more formal, but I wanted to get some other opinions as well.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I like the red-and-green hose. I'd recommend solid flashes, or woven garters, to go with them rather than tartan flashes matching the kilt. Otherwise, things will get a little busy around your calves.

Do you have a sporran picked out to go with that?

Yes, it's a fairly typical black fur sporran with silver cantle. I've also got a belt with silver buckle to wear on the doublet. I was actually thinking about flashes to match Cassie's dress (I'm making flashes for the groomsmen to match the bridesmaid's dresses), but I can't see the dress or fabric before the wedding, so if we do that, Cassie'll have to make them.

    Cheers,
    Nick

    Ow!

Those Agryll hose will look awesome when you wear a Montrose doublet...very stylish

    I agree!

    Hi Nick,

I'm addictted to plain hose. Dark colours make your legs look thin.If the hose has the same tartan then by all means wear them, if not I'd go for classic Oatmeal or cream hose.Or even white popcorns.

Your black dress sporran (Sounds great to me) will match your shoes. If you haven't tartan flashes in the same tartan of your kilt choose a colour from your tartan and get a plain pair in that colour

    Hope this helps

I think the diced hose are overpowering your kilt. Go with the off-white hose.

Aye, that is an amazingly beautiful tartan.

Just me, I'd show it off by staying plain and solid color with everything else except matching flashes on solid hose.

Ya gotta let that kilt shine, its incredible.

I really like to defend the diced hose for this outfit...will look very nice with the Montrose doublet.

This picture doesn't give a good idea of the "final" look I think....no sporran, no belt, unfinished jacket, no jabot and hidden in a corner behind the fridge.

I'm very sure the final result will look stunning!

I'd go for classic Oatmeal or cream hose.Or even white popcorns.
-Oatmeal...not for full dress (maybe when it matches the tartan)
-Cream...is not classic, a fairly new "invention"
    -Popcorn? Yikes!

    -Argyll hose...nice!
    -Tartan hose...way cool!

Please forgive me guys...I'm the tartan/diced hose nutter inhere

About the flashes...what about lovat or ancient blue? will match the kilt nicely.

Can't wait to see the pictures when the outfit is ready for battle.

    Cheers!
