Dutch customs nailed me big time

Michty me! Eh ken how yea feel,though no' on sich muckle pennies. Eh wis in meh hame toon( Batac) in the Philippines, an eh left meh troosers a'hent. So meh wee brither sent them tae the U.K. by DHL it wis twenty poonds $36" Fair enough" yea micht say. Bit when the manny delivered the troosers he guid me a bill fae the customs fir $27 Eh said " hing on a wee meenit" The troosers only cost $5.50 It's afae cheap in the Philippines.
"Ehm no listening tae yer havers" says he, jist gis the pennies. Bit eh wisnae beat yet. Eh phoned them custom guys and telt them eh wis wearing them troosers and jist didna pack them. "Ah" says he, "then yer brither should hae said when sending the troosers, coz we dinna charged fir AULD troosers " So wit happens noo " says I ? Well the upshot o' this wis eh didna hae tae pay coz the item was AULD .Ither weys eh hiv heard o' are sending as SAMPLE or as GIFT

ai always list the value as £1.00... tae avoid tax....

Sometimes, you can ask to speak to a supervisor. You may have a kid in training or an old hard line geek. Its just a kilt for God's sake, cultural apparel. If they're gonna charge you so much (afraid to ask the conversion rate damages in USD) then dang well make them work for it...by keeping them busy with phone calls and paperwork flying back at them.

A sad situation.

Visa won't help me...next payment summary I'll get half July, then I'm on vacation until early August...they'll return it to sender after 30 days.
Nothing I can do about...no invoice in/on the box, and I can't prove I payed for it...big problems

My XMarks kilt will be returned to Barb end of July.

I did...and I now have the invoice, but when it's not in/on the box I have to prove I payed the amount on the invoice. Customs say...I can come up with anything (fake) now. They won't accept it anymore without a payment summary.
