My mother's family first settled in Ramey/Madera area (northwest of you) when they came over from what is now Slovakia at the turn of the 20th century. My Dad's family migrated from Maryland to the Akersville/Brush Creek area (southeast of you). Altoona was the big city to both of their families.

There must be a strange connection between our areas, a close friend's father owns a photography studio in nearby Hollidaysburg, PA (where I grew up & BYDAND's stomping grounds). My friend (a fellow wearer of the kilt, BTW) was visiting a church in Eugene when he looked down and saw a comb in the pocket of the gentleman next to him that was originally from his father's studio!
