Kilts to be featured on Arizona TV
Hey, I'm going to be seen on TV in a kilt!!!
Myself & several other kilted gentlemen will be featured on Arizona Midday tomorrow. Arizona Midday airs each weekday from 11:00 to 12:00 MST on Channel 12 KPNX-TV here in Phoenix. Tomorrow's program features our local kilt rental emporium, Arizona Kilts, whose owner, Graeme Niven, asked me & several other guys to model some of the different kilt outfits he has available for rent. As I understand it, the impetus for the show is not only the increasing popularity of wearing kilts instead of tuxedos for weddings, but to show average guys (like me) who choose to wear kilts regularly. I'll be in an American National tartan kilt w/ Jacobite shirt & a Frontier jacket, what Graeme calls his "Braveheart" outfit, so, besides a sgian dhu, I'll also be wearing a dirk & holding a Claymore sword. With all this weaponry, you might say I'll be on the "cutting" edge" of fashion!
There'll also be some bagpipes, drums & Highland dancing on the show.
Graeme wants to point out that kilts aren't just for Scotsmen & special occasions, but that they can & are being worn by average guys for everyday wear. (What a concept!)
If the show goes well, there may well be a follow-up program later in the year.
I hope to be able to post some pics Thursday or Friday (& maybe even a video?).
If you're in the Arizona area & pick up this station, try to tune in & give some positive feedback to the station so hopefully they'll do some more coverage on kilts.

Cool! Another XMarker celebrity!!
I went to KPNX's website to see if they had any information on tomorrow's show -- it seems a bit out of date . . .
Thursday on Arizona Midday
May. 19, 2006 10:03 AM • Jan's in the kitchen making yummy ice cream!
• Find out how to get gorgeous skin with Dr. McCracken from the Skin Spa!
• Poet and songwriter Rod McKuen talks to Jineane about his upcoming performance.
Anyway, we look forward to your screen debut -- and, of course, pics!

I'm guessing that since I didn't get a PM, you had no shortage of models.

Where is the local Scottish shop in Phoenix? I'll be in Phoenix next month from the 12th to the 16th and maybe I'll have time to stop in.

Graeme's shop is actually in North Scottsdale, northeast of Phoenix proper.

Yeah, it seems that way, Caradoc. Sorry about that, but it seems that Graeme chose from guys that have either rented a kilt outfit from him or like me, have bought one through him. If he does get to go on the show again, I'll be sure to mention you & your great kilts!

Glad to hear the store is still open, hadn't heard in a while. Tried to hook up with him and see the place but by the time I drive down from Page his store is closed on Sat afternoon and Sunday.
Is it still just a kilt rental shop with a few tartans or have they expanded?
And hey Caradoc, didn't realize you were in Arizona too...or maybe just forgot...drank way tooooo much to have any memory left when I finally sobered up. Drambuie does great work to the palate and foul work to the brain....

November would be good. Any time before then, I belt on a breacan feile and I'm going to melt.
(I was kidding about not getting a PM - I'm not even sure I would have been able to do it anyway.)

I'm about 10-15 minutes north of the Tilted Kilt in Tempe, or about five minutes north of ASU.
Technically, I'm in Scottsdale. For the purposes of the Scottsdale City Council, I might was well be in Tempe.
I'm maybe two residential streets away from the ASU Research Park they're building on the old site of the mall at Scottsdale and McDowell Roads, and I continue to wonder who the hell thought calling it "SkySong" was a good idea.
