My father's long dead, but he flew Hurricanes and Spitfires as a Flying Sgt. in the RAF in War II.
Funny, when a Spitfire came to town and I encouraged him to go see it and show me around he declined, just said he'd flown them and that was enough for him. I suspect it was a bit of PTSD. He was in the thick of it with the RAF and the Army Air Corps when they weren't doing so well early on.
Yet a buddy he went through basic with that was still around a few years ago anyway, used to give local talks on "What it Was Like to Fly the Spitfire."
Good to connect the generations before the War II boys move on.
