I like Ron's idea of coinciding an "X Marks" convention with the Las Vegas Highland Games.

While the LVCS website doesn't mention the date for the 2007 games, yet. It does say that the 2006 games were held a week earlier than usual because of Easter this year. So, we can deduce that they normally hold their games on the third weekend of April (at least that's when they held the first one in 2005). That means the 2007 games will probably be held on 21-22 April. (Elementary, my dear Watson.)

We just might be in for an early 2007 trip to Vegas.

As has been said already, Mon. thru Thurs. is a bunch cheaper for hotel rooms unless some big event is taking place mid week.

I've been to Vegas six times but all before I turned 21. So now that I'm 37 I haven't seen at least half the casino's ext. that are there now & my better half has never been there.
Therefore, while the golf addicts are doing their thing we could (do the drunken stumble) go sight seeing on the strip.

Dunno . . . I was considering like maybe a tennis racquet, but it seems a little long to follow through properly on the serve . . .

I've lived in Vegas for 15 years. There is no off-season here. We are glad to take your money any time you like! Seriously, you can have tons of fun here, and its not all gambling. Vegas is a lot more family friendly, with better shopping new even on the strip. The San Remo was turned into the Hooters Casino. The hot months are June, July, August, but early June is not too bad. I suggest a place on the strip for ease of walking around. The Green Valley Ranch is nice, but its a long way from the strip, as it the beautiful new Red Rock and the so-so South Coast Casino. I suggest April to be here for the Celtic Society events, and the weather is much better, though maybe a little cool at night.

I like the idea of having it the same time as their games, we could make quite a showing! And April is a pretty temporate month heat-wise.

Hooters casino! Do they have a Starbucks and Krispy Kreme Kasino too? I kind of miss the old 'mobbed-up' less 'family friendly' and better dressed Vegas I saw as a teen in the 70's

I was in las Vagas in Oct 05, stayed in the Imperal Palace, Its not too bad, across the road from Ceasers Palace, But I think they are knocking it down somtime. I think a get together sounds great, but early 2007 would be too soon for me as I am also coming to Florida this Oct.

When my wife and I were there in '97 we stayed at the Imperial Palace as well. Not the best place, but we didn't know anything about Vegas at the time. They have a KILLER antique car museum, though. The Imperial Palace is the last of the privately owned casinos in Vegas, IIRC. The owner is a little on the crazy side as he's a Hitler fanatic, although it doesn't show in the casino.

The Flamingo (great pool area), Harrah's (famous "Improv" comedy club), Bally's, etc are all pretty much in the center of the strip, which makes it easy to get to any of the other big casinos. We didn't plan to gamble when we were there, but we started playing the nickel slots just for fun. At that time it was kind of exciting to play with all the lights and noise going on. I've heard they've changed the slots to dispense paper receipts rather than coins now, which takes away alot fo the fun factor. Nickel slots are cool as you can play for hours on $10 worth of coins and not worry about losing everything you own.

Even if you don't gamble it's fun just to wander around the various casinos. There is so much to see you'll never get bored. The Freemont Street Experience downtown is something that MUST be watched. Bring VERY comfortable walking shoes as you'll be doing alot of walking.

I really hope I can get the time off if this comes together for next April. My vacation time will most likely be around Easter, and we'd LOVE to join in!

Boy did I open a kettle of fish here or what? Do any of you have any Idea of how I should go about this? I'm willing to try. But definately not in the summer. I guess the first thing is to figure out how many are really interested. I mean willing to put up cash when asked!
