Rob, the black shirt works so well with the Irish National tartan - did it myself just for a day (before our current heat wave hit us!), and with the shirt comes the hose. Great! HOWEVER, I am a little concerned at seeing brown leather accessories with the black!!

I know full well that black hose and black shoes/boots can be a little OTT - just too much 'black' - but I'm afraid your brown footwear just doesn't look right to me.

It's too hot for me to think of a solution right now. 15 minutes to midnight and I'm sitting here sweating like a ---, with all the windows wide open too. It was 88ºF outside at 10.00pm with what I imagine to be matching humidity. The forecast is for the temperatures to go on rising until at least the middle of next week. This isn't kilting weather - it's nuddy weather!!

That's certainly hot enough Ham, but you should try some of our Mid_Atlantic states weather. It's often in the 90's with matching humidity.

I love the heat, but I just cannot take the humidity. A sleepless night ahead I have no doubt!

I had the same thoughts about matching with black sporran, belt, and shoes. Decided it was too much black. I think that problem is that it would work better if the shoes were a pair of boots. I actually saw a nice pair in the store yesterday and may have to get them. Will round out my shoe choices to go with my kilts.

Sorry to hear about the heat, I assume that you do not have air conditioning?

Ron, you look good (as always), but I have to agree with Hamish on the black/brown issue. I've always preferred black leather- guess it's just the biker influence, but I don't think that black should be "formal only".

Ham it is the same where I live airconditioning was just not installed in homes or business. I live on top of a mountain 9000ft above sea level among the tree's. Ever since the 1990's are tempertures have been risingand we are getting more and more days in the mid nineties on a regular basis. Of course down in the basin just 16 miles away it averages mid 90's into the low 100's on a regular basis and I tend to do my shopping late at night.

It's even worse further south where it gets absurdly hot and humid.

I remember as a child in South Texas when it was well over 100 degrees F during the day and so humid that even though the sky was clear without only a few white clouds, there was still rain falling. The humidity was simply so high that water was just condensing right out of the air. Folk lore said that this happened when the devil was beating his wife. Always struck me as simply weird.

Living without air-conditioning? Even in New England I couldn't manage that trick during the summer.

I once saw an interview with the late Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona, who was asked what it was like living in Arizona before A/C. He replied that since they didn't know any better, they didn't think much about it. He did tell of how his parents owned one of the first oscillating fans in Phoenix, and how in the summer he would sleep on the "sleeping porch" -- his mother would soak the sheets in water, and then place the fan at the end of the bed. Hardier people back then.

Sometimes I wonder if A/C has been a blessing or a curse...
