Oh, you'll get used to it soon enough, Phil. Just stay here at X Marks - this is where it all happens!
Totally off topic....I see you have a wide screen TV and it looks like it might be LCD. What size is it? Are these common where you are? I figured for me to get a wide screen I would want a 40-inch which in your world would be about one meter diagonal measure.
I went to price them and for the money they were asking I think I could buy 23 Utilikilts!!! Are these wide screen TVs common where you are and are they expensive?
Yes, spot on, Phil. LCD it is. It is a Sony and is the 32" model in their new Bravia range. I've had it only a few weeks, and have since added Home Theatre, 5 channel surround sound! Actually, here in the UK, there really is no choice now, just about every new TV for sale is LCD flat screen. I understand that cathode ray tubes are no longer being manuafctured! This set has Freeview built-in (this gives access to up to 30 free-to-view channels not available on analogue), has Nicam stereo sound, is fully digital and is 'High Definition' ready.
My previous TV gave up the ghost after 27 years of trouble-free viewing otherwise I'd not have bothered to invest in this one yet. By 2012, all analogue TV transmitters in the United Kingdom will be shut down, and everyone will have to buy a digital set, or go without! I believe High Definition TV broadcasting will follow that change-over.
I agree, these TVs are expensive but they provide an entirely new dimension to the viewing experience. Mine, without the Home Theatre, cost about £1,450. Oh, additionally, I had to have a digital upgrade to the roof aerial which cost another £260!
Ooops! Sorry everyone. This really is 'Off Topic'.
