It's a good looking pistol but if it's a functional firearm you have to look into the legalities of carrying it. Do that in Australia you find yourself hauled off by the boys in blue.

In the days of the historic (pre-1746) clans, pistols like that were strictly the province of the clan's "upper crust" : gentleman, chieftains, etc., who could afford fine weaponry. This was a small percentage of the clan's fighting force.
Later, soldiers in the British army's Highland Regiments were issued cheaper versions of the all-metal Scottish pistol - for awhile. The men found them to be mostly a useless encumbrance. The pistols went into storage, and the practice of issuing them came to a stop.
They really have no place in modern Highland dress. Re-enactment impressions are a different story....

Well I thought it was a beautiful wall hanger. Incidentally Federal law has it that black powder firearms modern and antique are non guns. (Or at least it was that way. I quit being a dealer)Interesting ain't it?

I must agree with Colin on this matter. By all means buy the flintlock . But display it over the fireplace.
Focus your student spending on getting the usual gear Hose, flashes, sporran, jacket shirt, shoes and the like. After that you play around with whats left
And as Colin says concentrate on looking sharp.

Here in Texas you can carry a gun as long as it is in full site unless otherwise posted. As for an appropriate place to wear it I can only suggest my family reunion ... Mom's side. Clan Moncrief, Indian Harbor, Granbury, Texas, first Sunday after Father's Day.
Believe me, you'd be the envy of our whole clan. This year my richest cousin showed up in a 'monster truck' ... what I wouldn't have given for your blackpowder musket that day. I hear that when ya get a hole in the side wall of a monster truck tire you can get free tickets to the Fort Worth Zoo if you donate it to the Gorilla cage.
And you thought I was gonna shoot my cousin ...
Kilt On.
