Here in Phoenix they tear down old buildings even if they are in fine shape so they can build new ones.

We have NO historic buildings of any sort here at all. Of course, this city was founded in the 1880's so it's an infant compared with your areas.

Still, I think it is very sad.
Hey pbpersson,

You are actually in a great area for old buildings. My wife and I did a four corners tour a year ago last spring. There are many 1000+ year old buildings all through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorada and Utah. Most of these "castles" are up in the cliffs, built by hand by the Ancient Puebloans. Particluarly outstanding were Canyon De Chelly and Chaco Culture Historical Park. Standing among those ruins will take your breath away.

It still amazes me to think that these buildings throughout the world were built without modern machinery. A testament to the determination of the human spirit!
