    Saltire Kilt

Alex Beaton, one of the performers at the Games in Enumclaw, WA, had on a new kilt called a Saltire. It had a blue based tartan in front, but in back there was the Cross of St. Andrew across the back of the kilt. Each pleat had a small white horizontal bar weaved into the material, which lined up over all the pleats to form the cross. Looked really sharp. Unfortunately, I didn't think to get a picture.

while I think the kilt looks great, still something about sitting on the flag doesn't seem right..

it is a great looking kilt!

The saltire kilt looks ok, its not a kilt that I would buy, but if you like it go for it.

I'm with many others that find the Saltire kilt beautiful to behold, but find it a tad disrespectful to SIT on someone's flag. Just my .02 pence.

This subject matter was raised in a similar thread a while back.

I'm not so convinced that it is a flag. A leather jacket with the stars and stripes on the back is not a flag. A sports car painted with the Union Jack is not a flag. Bath towels and dish towels printed to look like American and Canadian flags are not flags. Yet any of these could be construed as offensive by some.

By the same reasoning, could offence not be taken from the act of sitting on a clan tartan... especially with a bare bottom!

I see the saltire kilt as a clever bit of kilt fabric design. I don't think for a second it was designed to be offensive. I suspect that the designers would be surprised that anyone would find it objectionable.

    Just a thought.

I seen a dark blue kilt plain not tartan, with the white cross on the front of it, looks good and only costs $120 Canadian.

I seen Mr. Beaton at the Grandfather Mt. games this year.
I thought it was pretty cool.
