    Taking kilts on holiday

I am away to the Sidmouth Folk Week tomorrow - with kilts to wear and kilts to sew - I am planning on doing a tatters workshop anyway - they are the costumes worn by the Border Morris dancers.

I also take my drum and help with the dancing/teaching on the promenade. this year I have added snares.

I find that the easiest method of getting the 7 yard kilts under control is to push a knitted tube onto one arm, then fold the kiltwith the small pleats flat, and the aprons crossed over, then roll the edges to the middle and whilst holding the waist band give the roll a gentle jiggle to settle it and pull the end of the tube down.

I make my kilts with a centre back inverted pleat and the two sides are mirror images with the pleat edges pointing backwards, so the double roll is good - normal pleats would be best in one continuous roll.

I have a new black kilt to wear, and several newly refurbished ones, and am working on a second black one - this one will need to be hemmed as the selvage is imperfect.

I'll be off tomorrow as soon as I can get the stitches taken out of my skin - minor op a week or so ago - so I'll not be back on line until a week Saturday at the earliest.

I'll let you know how the pleats looked when unrolled after days in storage.

Pleater, have fun at the festival. It would be nice if the hot weather moderates for you, as well.

You ARE planning on taking and using a camera? Your projects and activities sound very interesting.

Hope to hear from you in a week.
