Buffalo Fur Hide Sporran....?

Okay, Mary, the lady who made the possibles bag wants to talk to me about making a buffalo sporran. No clue the cost...certainly less than the $250 possibles bag.

Will keep you posted, if there's anyone who would consider buying one too, at a fair price, that might help get her intersted. Let me know.

And, hey, I eat buffalo meat too. Hard to get up here, usually have to pick it up when I'm down in Cottonwood from the health food store there and there are some mobile meat and fish guys who come to Hopi that have it and my lady buys some from them for me. Good stuff.

Read somewhere that Native American problems with diabetes would disappear if they'd return to eating buffalo, elk, and salmon.

The folks from the buffalo sporran (maybe) place phoned me up to talk it over. They're actually gonna make one up to see if they can do it. When its done they'll take some pics to email me. They were estimating the cost around $150...

Will keep you posted as this progresses.

$150!?!?! OUCH!

Have you considered making one? That $150 is another possible kilt
Leatherwork is not terribly difficult, but often very time consuming
You can probably make your sporran, think about it......it's about 3 or 4 peices of leather stitched together using little more than a leather awl, good sharp scissors and a tape measure ...the trick is to take your time and get everything cut and spaced evenly.

Please do post pics of the Buffalo sporran as it is something I'd love to check out

Nope Brasilkilt....haven't considered making one myself....

My daddy taught me to value the quality craftsmanship of others...and I know far too well my sewing abilities...particularly with leather...and fur on buffalo leather...just not something I think I could master at my age.

Besides, then how would other's interested be able to get one? I think if this lady and her husband can tap a new market, all will benefit. They make things one at a time, custom work...

No clue how much hair on buffalo hide costs...know full ones run right around a thousand dollars. Suppose there are places that will sell hair on scraps.

And....greedy me....I'm guessing this first sporran will be extra good since they're trying to impress and generate more business.

But dang, now I'm thinking I'll have to buy an American pattern tartan to go with it....sort of reversed....buying the kilt to fit the sporran....
