Spokane Highland Games
Saturday was the Spokane Highland Games. Our own Kiltman wrangled a tent spot for XMarks the Scot - so I spread the good word and took some photos. I think I'll break these into several posts so please be patient!
The day started with a Scottish Country Dance Demonstration - that's Kiltman on the right.
I think Kiltman had better explain this one to you!
Of course there was a Highland Dance Competition...
It's great to see the young ones upholding the tradition.

The Welcoming Ceremony featured a mass pipe band
What could be finer than all those pipes and drums!
After the clans arrived the Blackwatch reenactors brought up the rear.
They fired a salute to open the games.

Even the wee ones were wearing kilts!
And they had a chance to toss the caber.
Now, I'm sorry to say - I didn't get any shots of the adult Athletic Events...
You see I was there to promote XMarks the Scot afterall...
Yes, that's Kiltman and myself at the tent.
Two handsome lads if I say so myself!

The Irish Dancers were a rousing success.
Unfortunately, later in the day Kiltman was arrested
Sadly he was lead away for stealing cows, wives, and whiskey...
I'm afraid these fellas meant business!
All in all it was a great day - and 1,500 folks came to celebrate our
heritage! Its just a shame Kiltman ended up in the pokey

Kiltman's Defense
I wish to correct Phil's statement about why I was arrested by the 42nd Highlanders. It was for stealing Sheep, Cows and Wenching. My brave liege man (Hank Dickie) defended me as best he could crying "a Douglas, a Douglas" but finally I was taken away. When given the opportunity to defend myself I questioned my accusers and found that none could truthfully say they had not committed the same offences. So, they allowed me to go free. I hope this sets the record straight. Look out world I'm back!
It was a wonderful day, now where are those damn sheep?

Kiltman is no a reiver, he was simply watching the livestock for the original owners.

My apologies to Kiltman - I'd hate to think I was spreading false rumors!

Superb photo. You're quite the photographer, Phil.

My second favorite, but all of them are superb.
