She had to re-educate them in the ways of the whisky, and they cursed her afterward for "forcing" them to raise their standards.

For a long time that was my favorite, but then I tried Laphraoig during our trip to Scotland, and now that's my favorite. I'd have to try them both again together, though, to make a true comparison.

The wife likes Bunnahabhain the best.
At all the highland games we've gone to, my wife would always be drinking Harp or Bass while my parents and I would be drinking the Glenlivet 12 yo. Since we always stopped at the whisky tent first, she finally said she'd try one. We were walking along, got about 50 yards and she was ready to go back for more, we were only half done.

My wife actually introduced me to the whisky. I had never been a liquor man, mostly just a beer snob. If I had liquor, it was something like a rum and coke, some sort of mix. But since meeting her I also like Irish and Scotch whiskies.

We even made a stop at the Whisky Heritage Center just outside Edinburgh Castle on the Royal Mile when we were in Scotland... neat place if you're interested in the story of whisky. Or, if you just want to try out a whole bunch of different ones.

Oh, I disagree that anything other than Lagavulin is just booze. Whiskies tend to be amazing complex things for only having a handful of ingredients. I HAVE had a whisky I did not like, it was Grant's... NEVER drinking that stuff again!
However, all the other Scotch whiskies I have tried, I have liked to some degree or another. I favour the Highland, and Islay regions typically...although I am seriously wanting to try something from Orkney. I have had a few Orkney ales, and those were tasty... of course, there isn't much comparison between beers and whisky, as they are two different beasts. I have yet to test out some of the more expensive varieties, but there are a number of good choices for those on a budget just sitting on liquor store shelves... I have even seen some that weren't well suited to a budget there too... typically though for the higher end stuff, it's special order.

Last night I picked up a special at the package store for Christmas with my brother inlaw.

We get the special packs at Christmas and that was the only one, had to get it.
Normally I enjoy and inexpensive McClelland's Single Malt Highland and to add to to it sometimes a little Drambuie, just a tich.

P1M What are the lids for on the glass? I am not going to let it sit around...

    ahhhh... the auld Glenmorangie glass...

    Ardbeg uses them tae...

the wee lid is tae keep the whisky frae evaporatin'...

    weel... at least the alcohol...

the lid is intended tae hold the alcohol an' the assorted aromas in...

sae ya get a maire "full" nosing experience o' your whisky...

really useful if ya arr drinkin' many whiskies and the glass is sittin' fur several hours...

no useful fur maist people an' maist whisky drinkin'...

    hope that helps

P1M, a bit off topic, but do you suggest a nosing glass for whisky? I have a decanter and the typical crystal glasses. I do wonder if I shouldn't pick up a few nice nosing glasses though. What do you think?

As for the topic, I am adding the Highland Park 18 and the Lagavulin 16 to my list of favourites.
