Sure there are other comments, some really weird...but the above is by far the most frequent for me.

Yep...same here and I agree for 100%...a simple "Thank you!" (together with a sincere smile) really works best.

I always get the "Is that a kilt?"

    "It sure is..." I reply

"What do you wear under it???"

I usally say something like
"Right now...nothing...but shortly it could be your shade of lipstick"

Usually "I love your kilt" even if they have to chase after me to tell me. I figure that if they hike more than fifty yards out of their way, I should consider taking a few out for drinks. I've only had one say "I like your skirt" and that was Phoenix last weekend with my Daughter in a grocery store. She was very nice when I politely told her it was a kilt. She stopped said "hold on" backed around the corner and came back and said "I really like your kilt". I think the only negs I've ever got were where people were drinking. Go figure. O'Neille

Most often the ladies will say something like "I like your kilt" but the best one was "ooooohhh....you're sexy!!!" They all get the same answer, "Thank you"

I attended the wedding of a daughter of my wife's best friend this past saturday kilted, ( 16 oz. Macleod of Harris ). I got two comments, one from the father of the bride, who, as it turned out, was a dead beat, (the bride's brother gave her away), and eventually was told to leave by the mother of the bride simply because he was never welcome. In any case his comment was "I like your 'dress'", I didn't know if he was being an *** or if he was simply ignorant but I looked him in the eye and said "Thanks, so do I" and left it at that.

The second was from an incredibly beautiful young lass who walked up to me and asked if I were Scottish to which I replied "Either Scottish or a cross dresser" with a wink and she came back immediately with "You're Scottish" and stood with me talking for some time and never did 'the question' come up even though she was a bit tipsy and since this young lady was probably younger than my daughter my wife wasn't in the least bit concerned with the way this young lady was occupying my time. All in all it was a very pleasant evening.

The kilt is a babe magnet even for us seasoned folks.

I've had so many its hard to remember them all, but a very common theme is "Nice legs!" or "Your legs are better than mine!"

"Woohoo!" is also often heard coming from a moving car speeding down the street with a blonde head sticking out the window.

Turnin' 65 in a few days (9-1-06) and I can say that if I had known at age 16 what I know now about the power of the kilt... well (sigh)

My wife is long suffering, since I am at many Highland Games and have posed for unnumbered photos of themselves and a "real scot"

This weekend is the Highland Fling weekend at the Michigan RevFest and I usually go to help out a local pipe band and fill out its piping ranks. It is always a great place to "people watch" Some of these young ladies almost dress for the occasion.

The strangest comment was while at last year's renfest. I was about to purchase a pint at one of the little beer concessions when a group of customers (who well into their cups - so to speak) hailed me and one said "hey nice costume" I smiled. Since I was holding my set of pipes, the next question was, "can you play them?" I answered, "Aye, if ya kin buy this pint I'm about to enjoy." Free beer got them a tune.

    I've gotten this one a couple of times, and it's definitely my favorite!! (Considering I'm mid-fifties and a grey-beard . . . )

Yesterday walking down the corridor of the Baltimore Convention Center, I got "that's very stylish!", which was also fun . . . considering I was fairly casual -- USAKilts Scottish National semi-trad, navy polo shirt, stone hose with black flashes, black shoes / sporran / belt.

I also had a nice chat with the waiter at dinner last night . . . he owns a kilt and wears it to most dressy occasions . . . told him about XMarks. (Trace, if you see this, chime in . . . most of us don't bite, and those who do have had their shots! )

I had a lady honk at me and another say you look nice. A thank-you is all I said.
Some ask where is the bag pipe. At times I would say I play the drums. Which I really did when I played in the band. Not anymore. But, it is nice to see people take a interest in the outfits.
