    Oh, I disagree that anything other than Lagavulin is just booze. Whiskies tend to be amazing complex things for only having a handful of ingredients. I HAVE had a whisky I did not like, it was Grant's... NEVER drinking that stuff again!
    However, all the other Scotch whiskies I have tried, I have liked to some degree or another. I favour the Highland, and Islay regions typically...although I am seriously wanting to try something from Orkney. I have had a few Orkney ales, and those were tasty... of course, there isn't much comparison between beers and whisky, as they are two different beasts. I have yet to test out some of the more expensive varieties, but there are a number of good choices for those on a budget just sitting on liquor store shelves... I have even seen some that weren't well suited to a budget there too... typically though for the higher end stuff, it's special order.

    Always been a fan of Talisker and Oban.
    However, I recently discovered Aberlour a'bunadh and it rocketed to my top choice.

    I personally always keep a Balvenie 12 year old double casked and a 15 year old Balvenie in my cupboard. In addition I do have a fondness for 30 year old Oban.

    And I finally got a taste of Laphroiag recently. I was to meet the catering manager at the Ritz-Carlton to go over my wedding cake when it turned out that he had been accidentally double-booked. So I opted to let him see the other client while I waited in the bar and drank glass after glass of 12 year old Laphroiag on their tab. It was a wonderful afternoon.

    Lagavulin is an excellent bevy- especially when it gets o'er 20 years auld...

    but there are almaist a thoosand others that are excellent bevvies as weel....

    I was going to ask what tid-bits people recommended with their drinks. But in arizona "Cullen Skink" would be a small lizard named after a guy name Cullen that discovered it. I'll have to go google it if someone doesn't enlighten me. O'Neille
