I figured as much... still, it never hurts to ask second opinions. I have not had trouble with magnets and my cards before in any circumstance... and it does seem like you need special equipment to demagnetize something, as we have special gear at the library (one of two jobs) to do such tasks... and even when I used to work retail, there was special equipment to demagnetize security strips and all that junk. So, I was under the impression that the magnet closures on the sporran would pose no threat.

As a side note: Mythbusters is a fun show, I don't get to catch it often enough.

It's good to be married to a tailor

My wife is an accomplished artist, with degrees in Fibers, Metals and ceramics. She can weave (yes, if I can ever afford to buy a loom, she will do tartans.) also is a goldsmith and silversmith. I need to finish her studio in the basement.

She won't try a kilt, but I may one of these days. I have an instruction book. (forget the name but the author is one of the outstanding kiltmakers in the business.) It ain't an easy task.

So far as accessories, We had a small sample of my Ross Weathered Hunting and she made it into flashes. I wear a tan open collar shirt with my military ribbons, kilt, belt and daywear sporan, black hose with the Ross Flashes and gillies. I prefer a glengary bonnet.

This is my personal mode of dress, except when going out then I wear a white shirt and tie and a black Piper's jacket. I have worn a formal tux shirt black or red bow tie and a black sport coat. I want to order a proper evening wear Prince Charlie but the cost is a bit dear.

When piping with the band, of course I dress accordingly Summer Military or Daywear and wear the Modern Wilson which is the band kilt.

has anyone ever experienced problems with these and debit/credit cards? I don't think that it should be a problem, as I don't think it is the same style used in security/de-magnetizing devices...nor should it have enough power to blank my cards through the wallet. Thoughts on this?
Excercise extreem caution here... my wife demagintized part of her Debit/Credit card by having her small magnets on her clip on sunglasses be close by in her purse. We could use the card only in an actual ATM where the card was pulled into the machine and read completely.. it seldom worked in the swipe kind.

All a magnet has to do is corrupt even a small section of the magnetic strip and your card can't be machine read...the account number has to be manually entered.

Quite a few years ago now I had a single magnet closure about 1/2 an inch across killing off my cards at an astonishing rate until I realised what the problem was - as soon as I changed it the destruction stopped and I have had cards for their full expected lifespan.

The cards were kept in a wallet in a zipped pocket in the back of the bag, away from the magnet. There was a central division too, but that was no protection.

I only realised when it corrupted the information on a floppy disk that the closure actually was a magnet, and 'the penny dropped'.

The more modern 'chip and PIN' cards we have here in the UK might be more resistant, but I won't be risking them close to any magnet.

Anyone make an sgain dubh (or don't) with a credit card clip?
