that is fantastic!! That is the best answer I've ever seen a mother giver her child about the kilt.

I've only had an adverse comment on my kilts from one person and I've worn them all over, including at my work as a civilian on a military base. Unfortunately for me, that one person is my wife. She insists on calling it a skirt and never a kilt. She says, "Real men don't wear skirts." The tone of voice is always with the intent to insult and she says that its an embarrassment to be seen with me in a 'skirt.' It hasn't stopped me but it definately has cut down on my quality time in a kilt. The only time she finds it barely acceptable is when I'm playing the pipes. (Yes, I'm one of those pipers) After 29 years, she hasn't given up and neither have I. I must say that I envy you that live in a less adverse environment.

"Do you know why divorce is so expensive? Because it's worth it!" Uncle Jesse, Dukes of Hazard.
Life is short, man ... my wife of 21 years left me a few years ago. I was one of those guys who simply refused to consider divorce. She cheated, I forgave, she spent us into deep debt, I worked myself almost to death trying to pay for it. Finally she did what I just couldn't do, she demanded a divorce. It was horrible on every level.
My kilts, although I didn't know it while married, were part of what pushed her over the edge, though she was headed that way already. Although she was tolerant, even defending me to family, she didn't like the fact that I was suddenly getting more attention than her. After she left me she told me she hated my kilts. Oh, well.
The gal I'm with now, Peggy, walked past a dozen guys in Wranglers and sat down with me, the guy in the kilt. Now I'm with a woman who considers my kilts one of her favorite things about me. We've even got matching kilts that we wear to go dancing. I had forgotten what it was like to be loved back.
I still can't believe I'm divorced, I never thought it would be me. But I've learned that one person can't love enough to keep two people together. I hope the very best for you but mostly I hope that your marriage will be either fixed or ended quickly, you don't deserve the kind of misery you are in, niether does she.
Most guys would not end their marriage over kilts, I'm not even suggesting that ... I can't pretend to know the inner workings of your marriage from just one post. But, it sounds like kilts are part of who you are and that your wife can't or won't love you for who you are. I'm guessing that giving up kilts would not solve the problem, only mask it.
Man, just as you don't envy me I don't envy you. But I'll be thinking about you and hoping that something changes ... marriages are worth saving, but it takes two to do it. Good luck and ...
Kilt On.

I had a most unusual comment from a lady today. She looked at my kilt (black hemp) and said "more men will be wearing those in future", I said 'well, I hope so'.
and that was it.

I got divorced last year when my wife said she wanted me out of her life. I jumped at the chance. This was before I discovered kilts.
Now when I come home at night the cats greet me at the door and they are happy to see me. There is no yelling, no screaming, and life is peaceful for the first time in years. I don't have to deal with constant hatred. I think it's great.
I'm enjoying a peaceful life and wearing kilts. It doesn't get any better.
