Thinking of nabbing a bonnet
Hey guys,
I'll say I have an itch to get a bonnet, one to go with more modern dress.
This will likely be a Balmoral style.
The other, being an older style, similar to what is offered at the Tartan Museum... blue of course.
Does anyone own one of the older style bonnets from the Museum? There is no provision for putting in hat measurements/head size, so I dunno if these are one size fits all, elastic banded, or if they are older fashioned, and adjusted with a ribbon. I know I should email and ask... but I have sent a hgih volume of inquiries that way already... and I would like to avoid being a royal pain in the a$$.
Any input is great.

I've been thinking of a bonnet, too. I've got a black Balmoral with a red toorie, but I don't like it with my daywear outfits. I'm looking at these two bonnets from www.glengarryhats.com:
"Special Forces" green Balmoral:
or Irish Caubeen, also in green:
My black Balmoral is not adjustable. I don't know about the ones from Matt Newsome's museum.

That Irish Caubeen would look so good with an Irish National Tartan Kilt!

Heh...
except I don't need an excuse to buy another kilt. I've already got a few things on order... including some accessories... now I just want to branch out a bit. I might even be ordering another kilt, if all the circumstances happen to fall right... just cause there is a special on the cloth (ok not JUST a special, there are a couple other factors).

No, I bought it on Ebay. It's a standard black Balmoral with no dicing. It's a nice enough hat. The problem is, a black hat does not go with anything I wear outdoors, and it's bad form to wear it indoors with my Prince Charlie. Consequently, I never wear it.
I have a lovat green Argyll Jacket and there's dark green in my best kilt, so I'm thinking one of those green bonnets would be a good choice.

I've got a black balmoral with a red toorie and red and white dicing that is sized. I think the bonnet offered by the museum gift shop is adjusted by loosening or tightening the ribbon.

I've got one of these in green. It's basically one size with a ribbon adjustment.

Check out the selection at Penny's of Thunderbay as well. I just ordered a belt (brown), buckle, and kid's sporran from them last week. Very friendly service so far. Probably not top of the line stuff, but good prices and likely a good intro to bonnets. I know I bought a balmoral a few years back and have only worn it once. Glad I didn't spend an arm and a leg on it.

Thanks davedove. As long as it'll fit over my head, I am good. I haven't actually measured my head... but I should be fine! It isn't giant or anything.
