I've never had a problem with my Sgian Dubh. I've not tried flying with one though. However, the last time I flew I did have some trouble with my kilt pin! Ahh the silliness of the TSA.
But out here in the streets of the Washington, DC, metro area where paranoia is in the air I've not had a single problem with a sgian dubh in my sock.

I have been asked twice at my son's elementary school by other parents "are you wearing a knife?" (which is against the rules, and I believe the law here in CA) both times they cracked up when I showed them the bottle openner and said something along the lines of "I'm much more interested in getting to my beer, than skinning a deer". A bunch of my son's kindergarten friends and I would have an interaction that would go somewhat llike this:
Them: Did you wear a real knife this time ?
Me: No
Them: Why not?
Me: It's against the rules and I don't need one.
Them: It would be cool!
Me: Not really
Them: Would too!
Me: Should I wear a dagger on my belt and a big whopping sword across my back as well?
Them: THAT WOULD BE REALLY COOL!
(Note: Children do not understand sarcasm)
Cheers

The Glen Urquhart sgian dubh is one of my designs - I sold the rights to the manufacturer who took a mold from one of my wooden handles which was carved in Glen Urquhart oak from the family farm - hence the name.
I can offer the real wood version with a high quality Swedish laminated carbon-steel blade and give X-mark members a discount.

Rab, I have absolutely fallen in love with your design. I went ahead and ordered the one from the Scottish Tartan Museum, which should arrive in a few days. (I am hoping that by playing with it I can decrease my jonesing a bit for my first kilt; three weeks and counting....) However, once I save up a bit more I'm going to be buying one of yours. Thank you for sharing your craft with us.

Rab,
I love the Ebony handle with Sterling Silver Triscle inlay! I just ordered a sgian dubh blade and have aquired some deer antlers to make my own first real sgian dubh. Looking at your stuff though...I'm sure that I won't ever have a complete outfit until I get one of your knives...someday...someday!
Cheers

You're killin' me Rab! I've got bills to pay and you go and post your link and fire up the "I want one of those and one of those and one of those and ---oooo!!! -- look at that one...." You get the picture. You create some wonderful pieces. And "Sgian Brew" -- I love it!! Nice quip.

So, if you could buy just one, and wanted to wear it for more formal and for casual occasions, which one from STM would you buy?
Stag, Oxhorn, Blackwood w/ thistle.......
