Hi Eric,

There are two reasons why I haven't 'gone for' brown leather accessories.

First, the Cornish sporran does not exist in brown, only in black - and I can see why!

Second, the predominance of black in the tartan (black and white being the colours of the Cornish flag), really means that brown accessories would not work with it. That lovely tartan says to me, " My accessories must be black!" Only in very exceptional cases do black and brown compliment each other sufficiently well that they can be worn together, and this is not one of them I'm afraid.

Nice thought though!

Absolutely outstanding! I think that the sporran really works quite well with formal dress - it's just enough. The brass bezants on the sporran appear to match very well with the thistle belt buckle - very striking appearance. Ham, as usual, you set the gold standard for wearing a kilt casually and formally. Congratulations on your 65th kilt.

Thanks, I didn't notice that it was single breasted. I like it but I think I'd look better in a DB Montrose. I suspect that a Montrose needs to be custom made as an off the peg just wouldn't work in that close fitting of a garmet. O'Neille

I very much doubt that it is possible to buy a Montrose doublet off the peg, O'Neille, unless you manage to find one the fits from a second-hand source!

The one advantage of the GT Doublet is that it can also be worn loose and partially unbuttoned with the kilt belt worn on the kilt, as well as in the traditional manner I usually select. The Montrose can be worn only fully buttoned, with lace jabot and cuffs, and the belt on the outside through the doublet's belt loops.

I have a Montrose doublet in green barathea which I have worn since the 1960s (which I can no longer get into and which is archived in my Kollection!), but I do like the versatility of the GT version.

Richard of Union Kilts was telling me about you only last saturday at Cardiff Mardi Gras!

I'm a few behind you having just acquired kilt #3 in brown leather

Wonder if there is a Guinness record for most kilts owned by an individual?

If only I could win the lottery or something...

But it's great to hear of your plans for them which we hope will not be for a long time yet and that you will have many happy years of inspiring others to take up the kilt.

Eeeeek! Now I am REALLY worried! If Richard has been talking about me, I'd better keep a low profile - maybe even leave the country!!

Guinness Book Of Records? I doubt I'd stand a chance! There is a chap in Scotland, I hear, who has over 200 kilts. Appart from the huge difference in number, he collects kilts from any source and regardless of whether they can be worn or not! My kilts were all acquired by me for ME to wear - most were tailored to fit and the remainder (with one exception) were as sold off the rack in my size. The exception being a Charity Shop purchase where the fit was perfect. Needless to say, a few of the earlier ones are now too small for me (curious how they can shrink just hanging in the wardrobe!), and these have been archived, but they are an important part of my Kilt Kollection.

Yes, I intend to be around for a few years yet.
