Maybe two more men join the kilted
I was wearing my Utilikilt Carmel Workman's today. I like to wear it with a forrest green polo and forrest green hose pushed down. The UK Carmel Workman's is sort of like an Irish Saffron kilt that's on steroids.
Took my normal morning walk at the park, and while I was passing the children's playground, I was approached by a gentlemen that I would estimate was in his mid 50's. He introduced himself, and said that he hoped I didn't mind, but he was really intrigued by the design of my kilt because he had never seen one like it. I explained that it was actually an American kilt, that I wore kilts as my daily attire, and also had traditional Scottish kilts. He wanted to know were he could get one, so I gave him a Utilikilt card, and told him about XMarks. I also told him the XMarks had links to some very good kilt makers if he would like something a little more traditional. He thanked me, and said he had wanted to get a kilt, but didn't know how to go about it.
Later this afternoon, my wife and I went grocery shopping at the Walmart Supercenter. It was packed - hard to find a parking place, and there must have been 300 people or more in the store. I stuck my cane in the shopping cart, and my wife pulled while I pushed - sort of like having a suped-up walker . With the store being as busy as it was, it was a virtual smorgusboard of smiles from the ladies when they spotted my kilt. By the time we hit checkout, my legs had pretty much had it, so I went outside to set on a bench at the store front while my wife went through checkout. A middle-aged women approaching from the parking lot spotted me, and came over to talk to me about my kilt. She explained that her husband wanted one just to wear when he wanted to. I stood up so she could see the kilt and explained that it was actually a working kilt - showed her all the different compartments to hold tools and how the leather straps could actually hold a tape measure, hammer, drill and so forth. She said her husband would love that because he worked in their garage, and he could also wear it out and about. She wanted to know how he could get one, so I gave her a Utilikilt card, and also told her about XMarks.
So to make a long story short, we may get two new members, and I just might see another man or two wearing a kilt when I'm out and about.
