    Calgary Kilt Night!!

Just got home from the inaugural Calgary Kilt Night. It was a small gathering, only 3 of us in kilts, but a great time was had by all! We are already planning to do this again in October.

Left to right: My wife Karen; me, Will (Rampant Lion), and Brenden (B. Ramsay)

Was a good night, that's for sure. This was the first time I've worn my kilt out casually and sure enough I got a compliment on my kilt.

I was getting ready upstairs when I heard someone at my neighbors door collecting for breast cancer research. I got down stairs and was putting on my shoes when they rang my doorbell. I was kinda in a rush to get to the pub and was considering not answering, but I thought that would look extremely bad since I'd be heading out the door 30 seconds later. So I quickly tied my last shoe and answered the door. On the step was a girl probably 13 or 14 years old and a friend of hers on the sidewalk. She said her little spiel(sp) and I told her that I only had a $1.25 in change on me(I had more cash, but that was for my supper at the pub) and when I put it in the icecream bucket she was carrying she said "Nice kilt. Where are you going?" I said I was off to meet some guys at a pub. She smiled and scooted (she was on a razer scooter) to the neighbors, and I headed out to my car when I heard her say to her friend, "That was awesome."

It totally wasn't what I was expecting and made a great start to the evening.

Just on a side note, I know this little story makes me sound cheap (regarding my donation), but I just like to state for the record that for our wedding, instead of having little favours for our guests to take home, my wife and I decided to take the money that would have been spent on the favours and make a donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Boy, I do get a little long winded, don't I?

Not been to downtown Calgary, Al, but spent a few hours at Calgary Airport en route to Vancouver and Victoria where I spent 3 weeks on Vancouver Island. There are a couple of albums on my website, one covering the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway and the other covering a trip on a Cessna 172 seaplane.
