Montrose In Search of An Event!
O.K. I admit it. I think Montrose Doublets are the coolest formal wear ever. So when I found one on E-bay (in my size after tayloring), I couldn't help but bid on it. The great part is, it is the navy velvet that I would have ordered when I got the half a grand together for an unnecessary purchase. Now I need to find some formal occasions to wear it and find a Jabot and cuffs or a Jabot shirt. Hmmm.... It would be awful if I had to pay more for the shirt than the doublet. O'Neille

You might check to see whether there are any Scottish Country Dance groups in your area. Many of the groups do a formal ball once or twice a year. That was one of my motivations for SCD . . . it's fun to dress formally once in a while, but no one in my regular social circle does.
You could start hosting dinner parties . . .
You could get involved with charitable activities which do formal events for fund raising. (Of course, the down-side to a commitment like this is that it might leave you with less time for kiltmaking and other valuable activities!)

AHHH!!! YOU won that auction!?!?! Curses....
I was slobering over that for days! It seems we both have a taste for the finer things. Well, I guess all I can say now is enjoy. And if you don't find a use for it, I am looking for one for Highland Dancing.
...man. It was my size and everything....

That's O.K. because I was preparred to go higher. It sure beats the $500 plus that the shops want for one. I'd have settled for a Black Barathea but the Navy Blue Velvet has always been my goal. I've got my master taylor awaiting it's arrival to do some final adjustments. Did you bid on it?

Yeah I was bidding on it! That's why I'm so shocked you were the one who won. Man, what a deal. Velvet and everything for less than $100...
Yargh.
Someday....someday I'll have a Montrose of my own.

Look for a St. Andrew's ball. They should be happening in November.

St. Andrew's Day is November 30th, although most Scottish societies have them earlier due to Thanksgiving falling at the end of the month -- and Burns Supper season is not too far away!
Cheers,
