The kilt is a bit hard to get exactly right the first time unless you hang out here at Xmarks.
What I suggest is:

For casual day wear brown street shoes, sporran and belt. Add a polo shirt and you are good.

For a slightly more formal evening wear black shoes, sporran and belt. Add dress shirt.

For Black Tie Add furry sporran and Prince Charley jacket.

White Tie add the gilly brouges.

Not all inclusive and just in general there are a lot of exceptions.

I do not see eye to eye with all of the advice here on this forum as I am from a differant culture and time but the guys here are the first people that I ask for advice.

I just have a social relation with that person and I would not jump over the bridge if she decides to stop the relation.

I have also to cope with my 84 years old mother who can't accept that I wear a kilt (skirt for her). For her wearing a kilt in the streeet is nonsense without the outfit. Anyway she had the same opinion if I wear the real thing.

She complaints that I increase her blood pressure every saturday I go to her home.

It's a chance that not everybody react the same. For example later in the afternoon I was at a local liquor store and a woman told me that I looked great with my kilt. I replied that she should talk with my mother.

I got also a great feedback from teenagers. One of them said that he would like to be a scott to wear a kilt. I gave him a Kilt 101 crash course. I like to do public relations no matter the topic. :rolleyes:
