At some point during the school year, I usually visit the local grandkids' schools with my pipes. They really seem to enjoy the music, and usually have some questions about the kilt. A couple of years ago my daughter was in the classroom helping out, the day after my visit, if memory serves it was a 2nd grade class. A little girl approached her and said "Mrs. Moore, I saw your father yesterday.", then she leaned in conspiratorially and whispered "And he was wearing a dress!". I guess the explanations don't always take.
All skill and effort is to no avail when an angel pees down your drones.

I do have my own story to add to this.......
Yesterday (Sep. 12th 2006) I recieved my shipment from SWK (got a Douglas Economy and a Blackwatch Standard) so today I went to the Small (Mall) to test drive the Blackwatch. I was comming out of a store, maybe Goth pockets (Hot Topic) when I heard a little boy tell his mother, "Mommy that man is wearing a pretty dress." Mom immediately replied, "That is a kilt honey.", "Your daddy married me wearing one of those...." Right away the poor kid started crying and sobbed out, "Why does my daddy wear dresses?"
I turned into another store, I was gonna lose it. Poor kid may be scarred for life, but, it was funny....... ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

I've got relatively hairy legs and I think it adds to the manliness of the kilt.
But on the 9th I was getting married and all my groomsmen were kilted. We gathered in my hotel suite before the ceremony so that I could make sure they were all dressed properly. As we were getting kitted out, one of my groomsmen turned to the others and asked "how do I look?"
Another blurted out "not bad for sasquatch!" and we all wound up laughing. Peter is a great guy but damn his legs are covered in fur!

The week before last my wife and I went to a conference In Yakima WA on the motorcycle. I wore my Gordon from Bearkilts under my Tourmaster pants. After a short sight seeing ride we were parked in the Hotel entry (one of the perks for friendly motorcyclists) and I was getting out of my riding gear. As I stowed the riding gear in the saddlebags a white-haired Lady walked past us and got into her car just opposite us. I watched as she looked into each mirror and then frantically looked about the car as if she was missing something. After a few seconds she got out of her car and approached us. I expected her to say or ask something, but I was totally unprepared for:
"I was so busy looking at your Kilt that I just got into the wrong car!"
She proceeded to climb into the car parked right next to us and drove off!

That's a cute story. And here I always just assumed that pipers would somehow be immune to such querries.
I've seen children much younger than that tug at their parents pantleg upon the sight of me walking by in a kilt.
The conditioning of our children obviously starts at a very early age and is most thorough. Unfortunately, where the kilt is concerned, it is sadly lacking. I guess that's where the like of us comes into play.
