That's a real bargain for such quality.

I guess it would be good for walking but I would be too worried about accidental damage (knowing my luck)!

Thanks chaps! Yes, I am very pleased with it. However, I think it is probably rather cumbersome to be used when walking (besides, I have never used a stick in all my years of walking/hiking - just something else to be carried or to worry about!). The antlers do look fragile so I'd hate to let the thing fall. No, I think some of you are right: it is more for show, a symbol perhaps. So I'll try to remember to take it next time I visit a grand garden or, better still, a Highland Gathering!!

Palm Springs, Ron? If you think I'm carting that all the way to California in case I meet a snake........

Bradley, the Randonnée Bretonne kilt is a joy, but you must never 'read' anything into what I might be wearing. I try not to have favourites. I took that photo on my return from lunch at Amberley Castle - hence the same outfit in both threads!

Derek: Yes, I realised it is just over a year ago that I spent those happy days with Elaine and yourself, enjoying your wonderful hospitality. I am also aware that I said you both should come visit here before the weather turns but, for various reasons, everything has been rather hectic and now, here I am setting off for California at the end of next week. I'll give you a 'phone call to sort something out.

OK! It's time for my daily constitutional. Now, where did I leave my stick....?

I have lived in Southern California for 10 years and I have ventured out to the desert often. The odd in seeing a rattle snake is pretty good. Although your stave is a little to big for handling the snakes in Palm Spring.
