Let her keept it. I rather have a mac desktop than a wireless laptop from Dell. Besides, the new Mac comes with the wireless card already

I've been stuck with Macs at work for years. I'd never allow one in my house. The current piece o' crap is a MacBook Pro. It's slow and stops working for no apparent reason, just like all its predecessors.

Don't use Airport, either. Your network will be forever disrupted by cordless telephones.

I don't know what's wrong with your Macs, Bob, but I know that there are many who almost never have the problems you continue to describe!

    Hope your Windows stay clean!

Very odd. I've been using Macintoshes, Windows machines, Apple ][ series, varying flavors of UNIX boxes including IBM hardware running AIX, HP boxes running HP/UX, Sun boxes running Solaris, et cetera ad nauseam for close to 30 years, and all of my personal machines are Macintoshes for a reason. That reason would be that if I'm not actually working, I don't want to be monkeying with "supporting" the machines I'm using. The two Sun boxes on (and under) the desk are for experimenting with "work-related" stuff.

The only Windows box here is the one provided by my employer, and it sits on its own network segment just in case someone finds Yet Another Zero-Day Exploit for Windows.

Using Airport here, with cordless phones. No problems. Base unit for the phone is less than two feet from the wireless gateway, too. Of course, the only machine actually using Airport is about fifty feet down the hall from where I'm sitting.

Which Airport technology are you referring to, anyway? Airport, or Airport Extreme?

If you really don't like the MacBook Pro, send it on over. I'd find a use for it.

Now Up to Date is good, or you can just use the pieces that come with Mac OS, iCal, Address Book, etc.

BTW - ACT first started on a Mac!
Thanks, and to you caradoc, Now Up to Date looks good. Yes I know ACT began with mac, as did my sign software, and both no longer support mac, more's the pity.

The imac desktops are very portable ,I've been known to toss it into its box and take it with me before I got my laptop.

right! I've even thinking of a mini to replace my laptop. I don't travel with a laptop any more, too much hassle with airline security, I just take a handheld now.

As one who has assembled my own computers for the last 7 or 8 years, I have a bit of a problem with proprietary pre-built systems. I like having the control of what goes in the box. I played with a Mac briefly while back and found it an adequate machine. People must be happy with them... they have a dedicated following.

I have found a certain comfort level with home-built computers. I find proprietary stuff restrictive.

For me that MACs are proprietary is the biggest plus. Apple controls what goes in and so what comes out is the best. The only problem I see with a MAC is it just keeps running, so I don't have a good reason to buy a new one. By the way, I'm a Microsofpt certified professional and have taught computer architecture for years. Nothing is better built than a MAC.
