Good for you Jay, my sister owned her own coffee shop for a few years. As for a name, do you want it to be kilt related, or product related? Is the kilt going to be the gimmick for the shop, or simply something the owner wears?

It seems like a lot of people on the forum try and work "kilt" or "highlander" into the name of their business, license plate, etc, etc, etc. How often does that actually depict what the business does though? Please bear in mind, I am not trying to pooh-pooh the idea, only bringing up the marketing training. Something Scottish or Irish theme would be cool, and could incorpurate the kilts and the business plan, but without making the kilt the main attraction. While Kilted Coffee sounds cool to me, how many non kilted people are going to be drawn to that? Is a niche market being created that may not be there to support the business? Some examples:
    Stag's Head coffee
    Cuppa

It would also be cool to use some of your experiences in the middle east to find a name.

Just playing devil's advocate. Good Luck, it sounds like a great plan.

All great ideas. The plan right now, is that the theme of the coffee shop be the PSD tartan. Menues, table cloths etc. I myself plan to be kilted, but would not require anyone else to. As a kind of bling for the place, I may have some photos of me in Iraq, or some Iraqi cultural items on display. The coffee shop book I am reading really stresses that coffee terms be in the name. Java, Coffee, Latta etc. So, Until I come up with something better, Highland Coffee will do for planning purposes.
As a non-kilt related issue, I am in the process of writing my book of my experiences of being in Iraq. It is called, The Infidel. And of course the plan is to have the Operation Iraqi Freedom: PSD Tartan as the cover of the book. There will be a shelf in the coffee shop dedicated to it.

There is an excellent organic cafe in Mimico, Toronto, called "Birds n Beans" so how about "Kilts n Beans"?

I would think Starbucks would be on the cutting of open-mindedness. I would think that a black or kahki kilt would fit in perfect with their frame of thought. If you make it UK's, another Seattle product, how could they refuse?
