    Uncultured A**holes in Maryland

So yesterday I wore my new SWK Irish National to the local Ren Fest where my wife and I volunteer every year for a day to help out a local organization.

When we left, we stopped in a shopping center about a block from my house, everyone else was exhausted, so I was elected to go into the store and grab a few things.

As I got out of the truck, I heard someone in a passing car say...."Nice dress"

When I got to the counter in the store, there was some housewife type standing there who sparked up the following conversation...

SHE "Y'know, I've never actually seen anyone in a kilt before"
    ME: "Well, now you have."
    SHE "Don't you feel funny?"
    ME: "Not at all"
SHE "Well, I don't feel funny in my sweatpants and flip flops"

Paid for my stuff, and walked out of the store. As I was walking back to the truck, some hag passing through the parking lot said "Nice skirt" I turned and saw who had said it, she was wearing a nice smirk on her face that quickly disappeared when I just looked away from her and said "idiot"

I never thought there would be so many uncultured assholes around here. Guess I'll have to wear my SWK to the store alot more often to make sure they are properly educated.

note: Self, wear kilt. Live my life. Go about as I please. Smile more, say, "Hi," often. Keep the smile.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

    It's NOT a dress!!

but, i guess it could in a broad sense be a skirt..
always assume a smirk is a smile, your blood pressure will thank you..
I hear that stuff all the time, i smile, and protest light, " a dress has a bodice!"
or, "not to many REAL MEN around?"
the only place i had some real misgivings was in backwoods Georgia one night, at a 7-11, with a very mixed group of folk, the girl at the counter shouted out" what clan are you with?"
    all the people stared.
i finally figured out "macsomething" and wonder how close that one was....
i try to be christian about the whole thing, it does get tiresome..
if you ever had long hair in the 60's or 70's, it's more of the same BS..
i gave up too many come backs when i cought my wife at a party some 30 years ago sliding under a banquet table to see what the highland dancers were wearing..
i said VERY loudly, "hey girl, lose your fork again?"

Not to despair. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of VA. I am surrounded by rednecks! I wear my kilt proudly. After all, they wear their camouflage proudly, right? I get a few odd stares from the men , smiles from the ladies , but no negative comments yet...

I don't get what the lady in the checkout line was getting at (was she in her flip flops and sweats?), but the other 2 don't deserve any acknowledgement at all... If someone says that to me (especially cowards from passing cars... if they were REAL men they'd stop the car and say it), I just ignore them... make them think I didn't hear it. No use giving them ANY satisfaction to let them know they've "gotten my goat"

Or, if you're up for it, tear a fire hydrant from the ground, let out a roar, and chase the car.

You think that's bad....try riding a bike, kilted of course, all over Baltimore (I'm not talking about the inner harbor either. I'm talking HBO's The Wire Baltimore) on a VERY VERY windy day. That was an adventure.

We all have had a bad day or two, but it can't be all that bad if you're kilted.

It's crap like that ya just gotta learn to ignore. We've all heard it too at one time or another. As for the uncultured... they know no bounds - they can pop up anywhere , anytime.

Ya know.... It's a test... part of the initiation rite of the kilt.
