My story is one of sympathy
I had met my wife, but we were still in dating mode. I was training full contact fighting hard core at the time, and the team started wearing Sportkilts. Since I can't have a match, due to my job, and can only train the sport, I didn't really feel like a member of the team.
Well, I came home one night with a broken nose from sparring. I decided that was as good as a fulll membership and ordered my sportkilt. The wife did not protest, as I think she felt bad for me with a swollen face and black eyes.
I don't think she thought it would explode into what it did. The kilt addiction did not start until I got married, in a gorgeous 3 strap tank.
Now, it is just out of control she says.
But I know she loves them.

Veering off subject a bit ...
but I think if it were more widely known that sports teams wore kilts at times, it would be a huge leap ahead for acceptance by the general public.
The image of tough fighting men is probably at the far end of the spectrum from what most people think of when they hear of a soft (?) effeminate (?) skirted oddity.
I'm not keen on the product, but I think "Sportkilt" has the best trade name around. Get them making something decent, and take a note out of Utilikilts marketing schemes, and then kilting will no longer be scorned by the village idiots.
Back on topic; my French wife never found anything strange about my kilt wearing, likes GB, and rarely makes any comments about my attire.
We never tried to play the typical married couple, or care very much about what other people thought about our oddity.
