Kilt Chairs!

I'm with Martin on this one... why?!!
I used to work in a furniture store and from time to time we got some of these style of chairs, many of them from the Far East , beautifully carved. We just thought they were oriental in design, have to say that I didn't find them any more comfortable than a normal chair

Because it's easy to sit with your legs spread and your sporran holding your kilt down?

afraid I don't buy that as a reason! the sporran hangs down better if there isn't any chair/seat to stop it falling downwards!

I don't get the kilt reason for the chair. I think you would have to sit kinda funny to put your leg over the hump of an arm.

The chair looks great for in front of the fireplace as there is no arm on the fire side to block the heat.

I'm gonna take a stab at this question with the answer of, because it's a victorian thing... The Victorians had some neat furniture but some of the chairs they created are just down right puzzling and/or uncomfortable, ie: Kilt Chairs.

This style of chair looks nice. I can't imagine why or how it could garner the name "kilt chair." It seems to me that this corner type of furniture would be best serving in an ensemble of like design pieces in their respective positions as end seats or love seats or ? , just conjecture! :confused:
