Thank you all for your responses! I was leaning towards the USAK, I just needed an extra push I guess. Billmcc and kilted code warrior, the warmer climate deal is definitely an issue, so thanks for your advice. I was worried about the weight of wool in the summer.

I guess there's one thing left to do, so, Rocky and Kelly, if you read this, I'll be calling tomorrow!

Where ya stay at in Louisiana? The reason being is I have a good friend in the St. Andrew's Society of Baton Rouge who has several wool kilts, and has never once said that Louisiana is too "hot" for them. I'll be happy to ask him and then post his reply.

That being said, I would concur with the suggestions about Rocky & Kelly's USA Kilts -- and I would also be remiss in not mentioning Matt Newsome's kilts, which are 4-5 yards and either box-pleated or knife-pleated.

I'm in West Monroe, its about 3 hours north of Baton Rouge. Same hot, muggy weather, though (even though this year it seems to be cooling off sooner). The norm here is short sleeves til Christmas, a two month winter, and back wakeboarding by March.

The jura wool from Scottishkilts.net is really nice. I have an 8 yard handsewn in that wool. I say get the wool one first. A PV semi-traditional from Rocky will be a good second kilt for hitting the town. PV is great for day to day wear.

Wool first, then USAK in March... Yer going to want the warmth of the wool during wintertime, methinks.

I have to remind the Northerners on the board that the winters in the South can range from cold to the warm 70s (thanks Global Warming!). I think a PV kilt with several different kinds of kilt hose (wool, wool blends, acrylic) would be a great first kilt for someone in the South. And if the winter is really cold, you can always wear something warm under the kilt.
