After two years of back and forth I'm taking the plunge and ordering myself a Buzz Kidder canvass kilt (forest green), as well as his casual kilt belt and country sporran (both black). I haven't even ordered my first one and I'm already saving money to buy a second one (County Armagh tartan) from the Scottish Tartans Museum. I'm pretty excited as I do a lot of volunteering with the Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society here in Flagstaff, and I always feel weird being the only guy in pants at our events.
Anyway, I do have a question. My primary mode of transportation is my bicycle. Maybe it isn't a big deal, but it seems to me that kilts and bicycles might not mix too well. I've read one message here where a fella wears shorts and switches to his kilt once he dismounts. Has anyone had any experience riding while kilted? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?
Cheers,
yup, i am sure the kilt was not designed for riding on a bike. i do a lot of cycling and lycra short are the best.
The best bit about wearing a kilt while cycling (as i do daily) is mounting and dismounting.
You swing your leg high over the saddle ... and tell yourself you are giving so many people a big thrill !!!
(actually, I have no idea what people can see, and it's such a quick movement -- and I like to think, so graceful, like flying -- that it is just a bit of teasing fun)
