Looks like a nice start. I'd burnish the edges on the flap though, for a more finished look. The back/flap piece appears to be about 4-5 oz veg tan. You could forego a closure device by just wet forming the flap. I made a leather box for a sewing/repair kit I carry with my reenacting gear. It's made of the same weight leather. I wet formed the flap, keeps itself closed nicely.
