Freelander Sporrans and Freedom Kilts
For those of you who have been jonesing for your own Freelander Sporran I would like to announce that I have just been on the phone with David (Freelander Sporrano) and Freedom Kilts will be the N. American distributor for Freelander Sporrans.
I have to tell you, I have seen a lot of sporrans, and in my opinion the ones made by David and Sten Rune are truly works of art.
Anyone who has one, and posted a review of it here, has commented on the quality of the leather, the quality of the construction and the enormous carrying capacity.
I now have 5 Freelander sporrans in my shop ready for delivery and as soon as we are ready to release the newest version of our website these beauties will have an honored place.
You may, of course, still order from David directly at;
http://www.freelandersporrans.com/cms/index.php
But by having a supply of Freelander Sporrans on this continent David and I hope that we can lower the shipping costs and time to delivery.
The price will be set at $175.00 usd, or $200.00 cdn, or 1015.73 Norwegian Kroner.
Please form a single line, and no pushing and shoving.
Freelander #1
This beauty is in butter soft black leather with a pewter Norwegian Dragon decoration.
Freelander #2
Same as #1 but in a dark cocoa brown. The pewter is a beautiful design.
Freelander #3
Can't make up your mind about black or brown, this is for you. Deer antler details make this even more eye catching.
Freelander #4
In luscious tan leather this is my favorite. With Reindeer antler tip details always elicite rave comments
Freelander #5
If the pewter dragon is too much bling for you then this brown one with Reindeer antler details will be perfect for you.
Until the new website is up if you would like one of these please PM or e-mail me. Let me know which sporran you would like by number and I'll have it in a box and out to you today.

Steve, congratulations! But, is that price correct? The price is still listed as $105-$125 on the Freelander FAQ page. It would be a shame if they have become so much more expensive.

AH YES! I remember now, David lives just outside of Helsinki.
Or perhaps I was just remembering my breakfast of a wonderful "Danish".
Yea, that's it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Congratulations on the new venture. But, I must say I'm dissapointed about the hefty price increase. I had been watching that tan leather with the three antler tips for some time on the freelander site. I remember it being $130 USD and that was WITH shipping. I'm sure they're worth every penny. But, ouch.

Umm .....well... Congratulations to a business deal gone good. However as much as I want another Freelander sporran to match the one I have (only in brown) I have to say that I WILL NOT be paying the new price. There are some things that should not be shoved into the CAPITALISM takes all mentality of North America.
Hmmmm. I'm depressed.
Sorry guys. Won't happen.

I have just had another talk with David to clarify the prices I quoted.
It seems I have made an error.
The price for the base sporran, (with the antler) is correctly $155.00us
The price for the sporran with the pewter detail is correctly $175.00us
The corrected prices will include shipping to anywhere in N. America via regular postal service.
My appoligies for the confusion folks. David sets the price of his work. I am simply adjusting my price to reflect the price on his Website. The price will be the same whether you order from him or me.
Guys, no one is trying to rip anyone off here. David and Sten make what I believe is the best sporran available anywhere. Occasionally a manufacturer must raise his prices to reflect increased overhead costs.
This is all that you are seeing here.
By David shipping many sporrans at once to me (and therefore saving also on duties and taxes) we hope we can hold down the end costs

When I purchased my Freelander, back in early 2005, I think I had somewhere around $147 USD in the total price, with shipping. And now the price is $155? What are we talking here, 5-6% in well over a year's time?
Maybe we should look at the percentage of increase for gasoline, natural gas or groceries, for that same time. Mid-winter, last winter, my heating expenses doubled.
I sell a valve train product manufactured from titanium. Titanium pricing has increased over 94%, since August 2005. And that is when I am lucky enough to be able to get my hands on it. It's about the same as Kevlar, the increased price really doesn't mean much, because it is nearly impossible to buy any of it. Between the aviation industry and the Defense Department, I'm being held hostage.
Funny thing about how the price of raw materials keeps increasing, along with everything else, yet the manufacturer is expected to eat it.
My suggestion, for those that want to purchase a Freelander from Freedom Kilts, is to buy as soon as possible. If you wait, Steve is going to grow attached to them and won't want to sell.

Another thing to consider is that Steve is giving his price in US dollars (hey, aren't you in Canada, there???), and we also have to deal with currency exchange. The US dollar isn't doing so hot. I know in the past few years I've had to raise the prices on a lot of things I import from the UK, not because they are costing me any more (in British pounds) but simply because one dollar doesn't equal as many pounds as it once did, and I had to readjust the US cost accordingly.
I assume the same thing would apply in this case.
